Creating Appealing Interiors for Procedure Rooms in Dental Clinics!

Dental Clinics are Boring and Dull spaces!
Yes, they used to be so, but not anymore. We’ve reiterated in our previous post that dental offices are no more cold, dull and colorless spaces in terms of interior design. Growing importance of oral healthcare, coupled with the rapid rise in patient population, has contributed to the need for smart and welcoming dental offices, especially the preparation, procedure, and recovery rooms. Meanwhile, changing design trends have stressed that a medical space, despite being well-equipped, when lacks an effective interior design, may not contribute to the doctor’s financial health. This is directly related to a sense of well-being among patients as well as patient retention rates.
In continuation to our previous blog post on the concepts of interior design for dental care clinics, we have now come up with some tips and tricks to create appealing procedure rooms in dental clinics.
What constitutes a typical procedure room in dental clinics?
In general, basic equipment in a dental clinic includes Dental Patient Chairs, Dentist seating, delivery system, overhead operatory light, cabinets and computer system. If you are wondering, what to include and what not to include in your typical dental operatory, here’s the answer – include that which makes the patients feel comfortable.

Although interiors of a procedure room are said to reflect the dentist’s aesthetic sense, there is a need to ensure the interiors can cast back unanimity and monotonicity. Clutter, despite being lavish, can make your dental space look like a nothing but an inefficient area that does not serve its basic purpose.
How to design appealing and noticeable “Procedure Rooms” in dental clinics?
Do not create pain in multiple joints!
Dental Patient Chairs are the most basic need in a procedure room. Having said that, we  reiterate that the choice of a dental chair determines your patient experience. Wondering how? Imagine having to undergo a complex, time-consuming and painful dental procedure in a chair that is not comfortable to be seated in – no adequate leg room, gives you a constant backache, no soft cushioning, height not adjustable, armrest, and headrest not comfortable. Well, that’s not a great experience as you’ll walk out with pain in multiple joints.

Well, that’s not a great experience as you’ll walk out with pain in multiple joints.

There are multiple designs of advanced dental patient chairs equipped with hydraulics systems, and upholstery available in the market. This could be a long-term investment so you can consider spending on a good quality chair to prevent multiple replacements due to cracked, damaged or worn-out upholstery. Same applies to operator stool as well.
Take care of the Dentist!
In an attempt to make your patients feel comfortable, do not forget the importance of the Dentist Seating. Since dentists tend to perform complex procedures or surgeries for longer durations, it is essential they choose right set-up to be able to sit comfortably, and within adequate distance to the patient’s chair. It also helps practice ergonomic dentistry given that it is regularly used and is one of the most basic necessities.
Lights and Lights everywhere, but not one to illuminate my day!
No wonder, things go wrong without adequate lighting at requisite intensity and temperature. Overhead lights are standard and one-time fixtures to either the ceiling or the dental equipment. You can opt for flexible and adjustable models to suit the needs of patients, doctors, and assistants also. Overhead lights should be placed correctly over the dental patient’s chair to ensure adequate lighting irradiates the oral cavity, as per preferred operating positions during procedures. Ensure that the light is cleaned periodically using adequate liquids (as per manufacturer’s instructions) to ensure it is neat and radiates clean and clear white light.
Use of Digital Technologies!
Many dentists wonder as to why we need to install a computer equipment in the procedure rooms. The answer is it addresses multiple functionality needs – imaging, billing, data entry, patient repository and printing and much more. Having a computer system installed in your dental procedure room can not only modernise your dental space but also help automate a number of processes. There are multiple options available in Monitor Mounts such as Chairside, Gliding-track, Dental Operatory Monitor Mounts, Gliding-track Dental Operatory Monitor Mount, Overhead Dental Operatory Monitor Mount, Flexible Dental Operatory Monitor Mount and much more
Choose Handy and Modern Dental Delivery System!
This is the most necessary and most neglected element in a dental procedure room. Before you purchase an advanced dental delivery system, ensure that you make a promise of good maintenance. Basically, Dental Delivery System constitutes either base-mounted or portable units. You can choose the best one based on the room area, space, and your personal comfort. Advanced delivery units can integrate multiple types of equipment, cables, control panel and monitor as well.

For patients, a dental visit could be dull and boring, and dental procedures – more often painful and avoidable. If you wish to avoid this and make your patients find their visit interesting – ensure you put patients’ needs first – instead of opting for some routine and default designs.

To be more specific, when we refer to procedure rooms, patients are expecting more detail-oriented interiors, which are free from – external noise, lack of privacy and poor lighting. Irrespective of the scope of your work – be it remodelling, upgrading or downgrading – setting up a comfortable procedure room should be on your high priority list, always. **
