Three Tips to Increase Patient Flow in Plastic Surgery Clinics using Interior Design!

Last week, I ran into a plastic surgeon friend of mine on a busy cross-roads of Los Angeles. She has just started her new clinical practice in a pretty crowded area of LA, unaware of the huge professional competition that followed.
After hearing a long story of struggle to maintain good patient retention rate and a successful practice, I offered to visit the place once to analyse the interior architecture of her practice.
When I stepped into this clinic of hers, as expected, I noticed the plain design, sad colors and lack of refreshing & rejuvenating elements in the clinic. She is a compassionate individual and a wonderful doctor indeed, who uses modern technology and innovative medical practices. However, the lack of ambience and an exciting interior design has hampered patient flow, and impacted retention rates heavily.
My friend, just like so many other medical practitioners, was completely unaware of the relationship between effective interior design and successful clinical practice; hence, it was her turn to be wondering how it can be achieved!
It is always important to note that no matter how fast-growing your practice is, there is a great need to pause, and look out for opportunities where change is applicable, so that you can resume your work with more enthusiasm and efficiency.

Interior Design is one such element that plays a major role in not only creating ambient healthcare spaces, but also positively impacting your metrics – patient retention rate, patient flow and overall growth.
Especially in Plastic Surgery Clinics, there is a great scope to design interiors using several decorative elements if you want to create a positive vibe, intimate and exclusive spaces for both your patients and your hard-working staff.
Patients visit Plastic Surgery spaces to get trimmed and polished as well as to reinvent themselves. Hence, a warm welcome using an artistic and inviting reception area adds to the enthusiasm behind the goal to look more beautiful.
Elite clients who visit your clinic for expensive cosmetic surgeries expect exclusive and intimate spaces for the procedure as well as the post-procedure activities.
Patient rooms should be designed in such a way that they accommodate the look & feel of homely environment, but with properly-placed cabinets, ambient and thoughtful lighting, and adequate seating space for visitors, without compromising on the amount of walking area.
Waiting Rooms should provide a comfortable feeling, as well as help reassure patients’ trust in the practice. This can be achieved using simple, sleek and comfortable furniture along with the right blend of interior colors, to give a welcoming feeling to the patients and their family or visitors.
On the whole, an interior design that incorporates contemporary elements into a modern clinical practice that uses state-of-the-art technology, is the need of the hour!
