Go Green to Breathe Clean – How to Improve Indoor Air Quality
Let’s admit it, sometimes our spaces don’t always smell like a bouquet of flowers. This is usually due to bad ventilation systems, plumbing issues or the like. However, this doesn’t mean you have to live with it. There are plenty of natural ways to eliminate unpleasant odors. Here are a few chemical free options we highly recommend.
Aromatherapy – Essential Oils & Diffusers
Aromatherapy is an ancient practice of healing health problems through the extracts of plant based products – essential oils. These oils are an extract of the cell that give plants their fragrant smell and are 100% organic. The healing process is usually done by directly applying the oils to your skin, adding them to your bath, or breathing them in.
Lemon, chamomile, lavender, peppermint, tea tree oil and frankincense are some of the usual oils used regularly for aromatherapy. Diffusers are one of the tools you can use with these oils so they can emit their minerals & scents into the air, leaving your space smelling great.

Coffee
Used coffee grounds are great deodorizers. You can place them in an open lid container within the area and have your room smelling like a nice cozy cafe. Alternatively, you can dry them out and put them in a porous sachet (such as a tea bag) with a few drops of essential oil and leave it out to hang. This is best used for small areas such as the fridge, under the sink, or cabinets.

Indoor Plants
In a recent study by NASA, they discovered that not only do plants absorb carbon and release oxygen, they also eliminate certain chemicals in our air. Some of these include Formaldehyde, Benzene, Tricholorethylene and Ammonia. Here are some indoor plants that are known to help make your air chemical free.

Activated Carbon
We’ve been hearing about these recently but what are they really, and what are their benefits? Well, activated carbon is made up of small pieces of carbon that is ground and treated into porous powder form. Activated carbon absorbs contaminants, allergens, and odors in our air such as dust, lint, mold, smoke, pet hair, and common household chemicals. When an organic compound in our air comes into contact with the carbon, a chemical reaction occurs that causes the particles to adhere to it.
